Leadership is critical in managing quality initiatives in healthcare organizations. A healthcare leader’s ability to identify quality issues and develop strategies to improve patient outcomes is essential to achieving positive results. This essay summarizes three scholarly research articles that demonstrate three distinct leadership styles (servant, transformational, and transactional) and their impact on healthcare. The paper also identifies the leadership theory that aligns with my current leadership style and compares it to another leadership style used by healthcare leaders in these articles.
The first article, “Servant Leadership in Health Care: The Future of Health Care Leadership” by Victoria L. Bacon, explores the concept of servant leadership in healthcare. The author argues that servant leadership is a more effective approach to managing quality initiatives in healthcare organizations because it prioritizes patient needs and empowers staff to improve outcomes. These leaders focus on achieving specific goals through rewards and punishments, which can create a high-pressure work environment and discourage creativity and innovation.
To improve my leadership style, I would focus on developing my skills in communication, collaboration, and relationship building. I would work to build strong relationships with my team members, listen to their feedback, and support their growth and development. I would also seek to create a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging staff to embrace change, take risks, and innovate. By adopting a servant leadership approach, I believe I can create a more supportive and collaborative work environment that fosters sustainable quality improvement.
