From the results of my Work Environment Assessment using the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, my workplace scored a 76, which is considered mildly healthy. However, there are some areas of concern, specifically in the areas of team cohesion and respect for diversity, where I scored a 2 and a 5 respectively. These low scores indicate that there may be issues with team cohesion and a lack of respect for diversity among my coworkers.
Despite these concerns, I believe that my workplace is generally civil. One of the key reasons for this is the use of regular 1:1 meetings between managers and workers, which allows for open communication and the ability to address any issues or concerns that may arise. Additionally, weekly meetings are held to discuss the needs and options for change within the clinic.
However, I have experienced incivility in the workplace in the past. One specific example was when two nurses were not communicating effectively and were not able to understand each other’s perspectives. This led to tension and a lack of collaboration between the two nurses. The situation was addressed by managers through the use of communication strategies like cognitive rehearsal, simulation, and evidence-based scripting to help both nurses understand each other’s perspectives and work together more effectively. This helped to improve the overall teamwork and collaboration within the clinic.
